There are lots of family activities. It depends on when you and your family are visiting.
Take the ferry out to Alcatraz, visit Ghirardelli Square chocolate shops, walk around Battery or Golden Gate Parks, ride bikes on scenic paths.

If your heading to Oregon You HAVE to see Crater lake its one of those awe inspiring things that just makes you realize how amazing a planet we live on. and southern oregon is a pretty friendly place. also check out the "Oregon Vortex" if you get a chance Ive never been sadly but I wanted to and have always heard good things. crater and the vortex are relatively close
Well Sac is inland. But you have the San Francisco area about an hour and a half away…places like Half Moon Bay. Then in Granite Bay/Folsom, you have Folsom Lake…it was pretty low last time I was there. You could hang out on the rivers in Sac. Or Tahoe is (I think) about 2 hours away, maybe less.
If you don't mind driving a bit, go South on the 101 from below Frisco and you will hit all kinds of great beaches.
